Zusammenfassung:El Grillo was the most popular school magazine among Uruguayan children, families and teachers. Its edition and distribution was in charge of the Council of Primary and Normal Teaching. It was distributed free of charge among the children of the Uruguayan public schools between December 1949 and September 1958, reaching all corners of the country. The name of the magazine was chosen by a commission appointed by the Council of Primary and Normal Education. It was integrated by Alberto Alves, Juan Carlos Castellanos, Humberto Zarrilli and Carlos Alberto Garibaldi. Among the proposed names were Uruguay, Chihgolo and Ta-Te-Ti. El Grillo was finally adopted. The circulation of the first issue was 160,000 copies. From December 1949 to September 1955, the magazine was printed at the Rex SA publishing house. As of July 1956, it was printed by the Barreiro publishing house. The contents of the magazine were varied and touched on subjects belonging to the current study programs: stories, legends, poetry, geography, history, natural sciences, art, civic education and even some comics.
